About ideathon 2021

Ideathon for Innovation

An Ideathon is generally defined as a short, intensive, workshop-like experience for people to address pressing issues and/or challenges. Brainstorming is a group creativity technique by which efforts are made to find a conclusion for a specific problem by gathering a list of ideas spontaneously contributed by its members. Whereas a think tank or policy institute, research institute, etc. is an organization that performs research and advocacy concerning topics such as social policy, political strategy, economics, military, technology, and culture.

How will it be beneficial for students?

Build a community of problem solvers
Identify unique ideas that can make a difference to the broader community
Provide a platform to develop an active community that will learn from each other and work toward a common goal to raise public awareness about research and reasons to participate in social trials

Problem Statements

The problems were collected from various engineering sectors that had a big impact on the society. Sectors like Computer, Information technology, Mechanical, Production, Electrical, Electronics, ICT, Civil & Structure and Central Level Problems.

Internet Of Things (IoT)

Internet of Things (IoT) is considered to be the next industrial revolution and often referred to as Industry 4.0.
Many applications are getting developed in IoT by interconnecting smart sensors, smart actuators with cloud computing platform for creating smart infrastructures like energy, transportation, water & waste management, smart manufacturing and automation.
However, security of IoT and smart infrastructures is equally important.

The problem statement is to secure end-to-end IoT value chain, anomaly detection, rare-event detection, incident reporting.

Smart Vehicles

Smart vehicle is connected and uses a latest technology which adapts a collaborative innovation network based on both hardware and software platform where users share their localized position together and with the infrastructure will provide the necessary information to prevent collision and optimize the fluidity at traffic lights, minimizing congestion. They also help drivers prevent accident, saving time and energy.

Renewable Energy

Renewable energy is a growing field however, in order to determine what energy source we should use. We must understand how much energy we consume. So we need to develop feasible architecture and business strategy for a developing society.

Arunai Ideathon 2021

Each team will be allotted a time of at most 5 minutes for presentation. Participants are requested to prepare the slides accordingly.

The presentation will be followed by 2 minutes of a Q & A session.

The ideas will be evaluated on the basis of the:
    a) Quality and originality of the idea
    b) Is it solving the problem or not?
    c) It’s likely impact on target group and market

Idea will be evaluated on the following main criteria:
a) Innovation – How ‘innovative’ is the idea? Is this idea creative and progressive?
   b) Feasibility of Implementation – How feasible is the idea? How can it be executed within 6 months/one year on a defined budget?
    c) Sustainability – How sustainable is the idea? Is this idea cost-effective? Where does this have market potential and scalability?
    d) Impact – How does this idea raise awareness for diverse or vulnerable populations in a range of social conditions?

Rules & Regulations

Arunai Ideathon 2021

Only ideas & Products that help in implementation of Sustainable Development Goals accepted.

A Team may consist of Maximum of 4 students from the same stream or from other stream.

The Team Name should be unique and not contain the name of your institute in any form.

If an existing project is considered for the event, the addition of newer features may be allowed as per the discretion of Judges.

Teams should be made up exclusively of students who are not organizers, volunteers, judges, sponsors, or in any other privileged position at the event.

Teams can use libraries, frameworks, or open-source code in their projects. Working on a project before the event and open-sourcing it for the sole purpose of using the code during the event is against the spirit of the rules and is not allowed.

Shortlisted Teams shall present ther ideas in PPT format (PPT Template will be emailed to shortlisted Teams).

No participant shall engage in any malicious/illegal activities which do not adhere to the general code of conduct for developers. Participants will be immediately disqualified if they are found indulging in malpractice

Clearly communicate the email-ids and mobile numbers of all team members as well.

In case of a tie, the decision of Judges will be final and binding.

What is the cost of participating in Ideathon 2021?

There is no participation fee.

Who can participate in Ideathon 2021?

Ideathon 2021 is open to UG and PG Students from Arunai Engineering College.

How do I know my registration is confirmed and when to start the development Phase?

The organizing team will approve and confirm your participation. Shortlisted teams will receive a confirmation email

Do we need to have the entire idea fully working?

The entry should be functional for review by the judges.

A fully developed application needs to have a solid backend for data storage like SQL, SharePoint etc. As it is an online hackathon, is it acceptable to show only the prototype?

Yes, you are required to submit a prototype. If you use any database like SQL Server or PostgreSQL you can also submit a database dump along with your submission.

If it is a team submission, does that mean all team members will have to present in meet?

Yes, all team members should be present in meet while explaining your idea.
